Roman numbers are written using English alphabets. These alphabets are I, V, X, L, C, D, M.

Let's convert a whole number (1234) to Roman numeral. Referring to the above table:
  •  Thousands place is 1, ∴ Roman numeral is M
  •  Hundreds place is 2, ∴ Roman numeral is CC
  •  Tens place is 3, ∴ Roman numeral is XXX
  •  Ones place is 4, ∴ Roman numeral is IV

Joining all the above Roman numeral, the Roman numeral for 1234 is MCCXXXIV.

Let's convert a Roman numeral (MMCCCXLV) to whole number. Referring to the above table:
  •  Thousands place is MM, ∴ whole number is 2
  •  Hundreds place is CCC, ∴ whole number is 3
  •  Tens place is XL, ∴ whole number is 4
  •  Ones place is V, ∴ whole number is 5

∴ the whole number is 2345.
