Common mistakes made when converting the whole number to number word

Though the students enjoy converting the whole number to number word, however in many cases they tend to make mistakes. These mistakes could be because of carelessness or because the child did not understand the concept properly. It is always a good idea to be aware about the common mistakes which students usually make so that these can be corrected from the early age. Here are some of the common mistakes which students usually make when converting the whole number to number word.

☞ 20007 is Two Thousand and Seven

In the Ones place is 7. In the ten-thousandth place is 2. Therefore the correct number word is Twenty Thousand and Seven.

Ways to teach the children to minimize this error
  • Starting from the right most digit of the number, tag the digit as Ones, Tens, Hundreds, Thousands, Ten-Thousands, etc.
  • Starting from the right most digit of the number, insert a comma after every 3 digits. This will make the reading the number easier and reduce the chance of making error.
