Common mistakes made when working on coordinate geometry

Though the students enjoy working with coordinate geometry, however in many cases they tend to make mistakes. These mistakes could be because of carelessness or because the child did not understand the concept properly. ☞ The equation of the y-axis is y=0

The correct statement is The equation of the y-axis is x=0.

  • y-axis is the starting line for the x-cordinate points. The x-cordinate on any point of the y-axis is 0.
    ∴ the equation is x=0.

    The correct statement is The equation of the x-axis is y=0.
